Hi! I'm Kathleen.
As a conflict specialist, mediator, camp professional, former teacher, sibling, and parent, I've experienced complex conflicts from every perspective.
I've dedicated my life to studying conflict, trauma, and mental health. Now, I craft simple tools for kids and teens to bring more peace into their lives. Sometimes I get asked to speak at conferences, sometimes I do training at camps, and sometimes I certify professionals on my methods. |
My education?
I received my Bachelors of Education at Queen's University, and my Master's of Education at Brock University. I studied aggression and peacebuilding. I then went to the University of Waterloo to get a Certificate of Conflict Management, which resulted in becoming a Qualified Mediator.
Even though I’ve studied bullying and conflict in academic settings for a long time, I believe in action over theory, and results over research. My camp training sessions will give your staff tangible tools to use immediately with your campers. |
And I have camp experience.
Although I spent over 10 years teaching leadership, nutrition and social justice in the Ontario Public System, my heart has always been in camping.
I spent a decade in outdoor education and travelled all over the world while doing it. I’ve worked with at-risk youth in Nunavut, learned about sustainability in Kenya, and taught skiing to international campers in Switzerland. I worked in the Tim Horton Children's Foundation's Youth Leadership Program developing life skills for teens. I did an internship with Kinkark Outdoor Center and taught ESL to international students at a camp in Peterborough. I also worked at the Brantford Boys and Girl Clubs as a coordinator of youth programming. Training camps feels like a homecoming - and I feel so grateful to be back in an environment that makes a huge difference in the lives of campers and staff. |
